PSORIASIS: Make a Change To How You Care for Your Skin

Posted by Bio-First Team on

Our aim at Bio-First is to improve how your affected skin feels and looks.

The following notes relate mainly to those prone to plaque type Psoriasis.

Living with Psoriasis

Unfortunately if you or a loved one has this condition, you’ll already know a lot about living with it.

As every case is different, your own knowledge, experience and approach is more valuable than anything or anyone else’s, but there are a few general principles of skin care that we believe in at Bio-First:

  • Moisturise affected skin very regularly
  • Use only gentle products
  • Avoid excessive sweating
  • Try not to scratch affected areas
  • Reduce stress as much as possible

How to choose the right skin care product for you?

Psoriasis treatments range from use of specific moisturisers to systemic biological immune therapies, depending on severity and other factors.

When it comes to selecting moisturisers, the choices and usual recommendations are:

  • Salicylic acid creams and lotions
  • Coal tar based creams and ointments
  • Mineral oil skin products
  • Petrolatum-based creams
  • Hyaluronic acid active ingredient
  • Topical steroids

Some of the above also feature botanical and vitamin ingredients, or ceramides and other nice sounding things so be aware of the need to check all of the ingredients and decide if they are right for you.

The Bio-First Natural Alternative

Bio-First’s Manuka Skin Saver gel is unique and entirely unlike the product types listed above. The ingredients of special relevance for Psoriasis-prone skin are :

Manuka Honey UMF10+ from NZ which can help restore the skin barrier function, is highly soothing and naturally antibacterial alongside Manuka Oil.

Milk Thistle Extract which has shown strong bioactivity without irritation, and Milk Thistle Oil for nourishing moisturisation.

Aloe Vera Gel which has clinically proven benefit, is super-hydrating and helps calm things down

We recommend regular applications to improve how affected areas look and feel. We especially recommend use on knees, legs, elbows, arms - they will love it!!
